antivirus for windows 8 ?

Hi all. Just bought this laptop for my 16 year old daughter today. http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/lenovo-z580-15-6-laptop-metal-17056542-pdt.html I was wondering what free antivirus to get. Don't really want a yearly sub one. someone told me that windows 8 doesn't need an extra antivirus?? Thanks all

I Only used the trials and found no problems with AVG

Windows 8 incorporates "Windows Defender" which, unlike the version in Windows 7, is actually "Microsoft Security Essentials", so Anti-virus software is already in place.
