Imaging

I have created an image of my Windows 8 (one hour to do so) and , as a precaution, copied it to an external hard disk. To test it, I inserted the Windows 8 install disk and chose Repair. I then chose Advanced and connected the hard disk - as requested. The Windows repair does not recognise the external Image nor the Image on the computer Hard Disk (C:). No means is given to search for the file. Dos commands used : mkdir C:\RefreshImage and recimg -CreatImage C:\ refreshImage. I assume there is something I am not doing correctly - rather than a Microsoft Windows 8 problem ! Help please !!
