Where is the Start button on Old-style Desktop

Hi,

I'm loving windows 8 and the new style, but I still need to use the old desktop now and again - I can get to it fine, but for some reason there is no start menu (with programs & accessories menu etc). When I was playing around in PC world there was. On my laptop the start button just takes me to the new desktop with tiles?

Thanks

Doesn't look like it. Strange on a new laptop. Anyway, Defender is your Antivirus/ antimalware program and the firewall is as Win 7. Windows Media Player is back to playing/burning CDs only so bin that. Free Media centre will play DVDs but you might want to download another player. VLC seems popular so do a search.

I think 8 is a very good OS even for a non-touch screen computer.

I was surprised at the quick factory setup - took 5 mins

Yeah I do really like Win8 to be honest - it just takes some getting used to!

I have another program on here for DVDs 'powerDVD' by Lenovo so that should suffice. Didn't know that about WMP!

Microsoft scrapped the old Start button for the metro screen. plenty of details on this section of the Forum.

As for what you saw in PC World only their staff will be able to answer this. However if you have the option to make restore discs I would advise you do so
