upgrade to win 8 query

At the moment i have a Pc running Win 7. I am building a new PC and was going to transfer win 7 to the new PC. My question is I am considering upgrading to win 8 and was wondering do I have to install win 7 first and then use the win 8 upgrade or can I just install from the win 8 upgrade

No, you can't, there must be a licensed copy of a previous Windows version on the computer you're upgrading.

The upgrade process will invalidate the previous license by the way, so you cannot then install the software on another computer.

I think you will find you will need to install Windows 7 first. Upgrade is just that an upgrade.But there may well be something here.Google.
