Windows 8 - Blank Monitor

Hi there,
I've recently installed windows 8 over windows 7 via the windows upgrade. I went through the upgrade advisor from Microsoft and a couple of apps weren't compatible, so I upgraded and removed accordingly.
Went onto the install screen and it started doing its thing. I then left it to its own devices to install. I checked in on the computer half an hour later and it was at 75% installation. Went back later and the monitor was off, I moved the mouse and the computer beeped. The hard drive kicked in been there is no image on my monitor. I waited upto an hour and still nothing appeared so I took the decision to turn it off and again.
The computer booted up, with the DOS beep but no bios or anything is appearing the, the monitor is blank, does anyone else have a solution or experience of this problem?
It is a desktop PC not a laptop made by Acer, but I don't have the model number to hand.
