windows 7 update stuck

My Grandson's laptop is stuck in a windows update nothing seems to clear it. If switched off then re-powered it comes back in exactly the same place.

Try......

unplugging the laptop from the power source and also removing the battery pack. Replace the battery pack and power on. A black screen should appear saying Windows was not closed properly. Click enter to restart Windows normally. It will then install updates. It may be necessary to turn off your antivirus while this is being carried out.
