I have heard that this can happen if you have a media player key on your keyboard that has for some reason become slightly jammed and when you use other keys it engages and wmp is launched.

You could follow the steps in this article to uninstall and reinstall WMP.

It might just say media or have a symbol that looks media-related.

If you want to disable it...

  1. Go to Start.
  2. Control Panel.
  3. Programs and Features
  4. In the blue section to the left click "Turn Windows features on or off"
  5. Click the plus symbol beside media features and uncheck Windows Media Player.
  6. A prompt will pop up, click yes.
  7. Click OK and wait for the next prompt and click restart now.

You will of course have to re-enable it when you need it or unless you have another media player installed.
