Windows update not working

I am running Windows 7 on my Dell laptop and have noticed that I've had no updates for 6 months. When I ask try to download updates I'm told that the service is not running and that I should restart my computer. This never works, however. I have tried several "fixes" from the Microsoft site but have had no success.

Any ideas?

Have you gone into services to make sure Windows Update is on automatic and running.

have you tried the Fix It from Microsoft,

Fix it

Something else to try.If the updates are set to automatic switch it off. Reboot and switch it back on and see if that helps.
