Hard drive does not show up in either 'My Computer' or in device manager. Im quite new to building my own pc. I built this one from the ground up basically by myself with no problems. Ive taught myself everything i do know and this is beyond my knowledge. Is there anything i could have done wrong? when i restart the pc it shows up as S.M.A.R.T Error. or something along those lines. Windows 7 64 bit, any other information needed will be provided. Any help would be awesome! Thanks in advance.

S.M.A.R.T errors are explained here and here but generally indicate HDD failure is either near or happened. Probably the first thing to check would be the connections - power and data leads - are good. If this fails to produce results it is possible the HDD has failed.
There are a number of causes of failure; age/usage is the most common, but impact and static electricity can also cause problems.
If the HDD is new and you haven't dropped it or subjected the electronics to a static discharge, it may have been damaged in transit and you should return it to the supplier for replacement.
