Dead Keyboard after Win 7 Starter shut down by empty battery

Foolishly I allowed the battery on my Acer notebook to run out causing Windows to shut down and lock the current files. As I needed the files urgently I asked a professional to recover them, which he did. Later I connected the mains power and recharged the battery. Now the notebook keyboard will not allow me to enter my password when demanded. The mouse and touchpad work. I have used F8 to try to restore the previous status. No luck!

Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem please, apart from ditching the note book.

You could try plugging a standard USB keyboard into the computer and see if that lets you get into Windows. If it does, try running System Restore to see if it restores the built-in keyboard's functionality.

I just wonder what your 'IT Professional' may have done to cause this problem, and why it was not identified and rectified while he had notebook. Have a word with him to see if he had an answer.

Try restarting your notebook in Last Good Known Configuration . Hit F8 at boot and choose LGKC. if that doesn't help try it in Safe mode

On the log in screen you should have the ease of access icon on the bottom left. Use the mouse to click on it. In the menu select 'type without the keyboard(on-screen keyboard). That will at least let you log in so that you can check device manager for any problems.
