Change size of desktop display

Hi I have just installed windows 7 - i wish to reduce the size of everything within the dektop how can this be done?

I assume that you mean reduce the size of the icons.

Right click the desktop - View - change icon size.

Or if you have a mouse with a scroll-wheel place your mouse-pointer on a blank part of the desktop, hold down the control key and scroll down on the mouse wheel.
