sound card problems. eg not recognise line in or plug in speakers or head phones

computer indicates sound card and states working ok. but fails to pic up speakers or a line in from monitor or headphones. any clues please a.s.a.p

It will most likely be the drivers but before we can give more information we need to know some details about your PC and your OS.

Try unplugging and reconnecting the speakers. The computer may have simply failed to detect the speakers on startup, and will do so if they are plugged back in once the computer is on.
