Resolution problem on Windows 7

I have just had to re-install Windows 7 and I can't get the resolution right I have a 21" Wide screen LCD monitor When I right click on the desktop I can adjust to 1280 x 800, and I have set the icons to small, but the display is still not correct. What do I need to do please?
