cannot backup - error code 0x81000031

I cannot back up my computer on either of two external hard drives. In both cases I get an error code 0x81000031. I use windows 7, 32-bit and do not think I have Bitlocker on my machine. Help would be appreciated.

Windows 7 back-up is very problematic,there are many programs out there,some free, that will do the job far better than Microsoft.
