Vista to XP on old Laptop

Someone has given me a Dell inspiron 640m it has Windows Vista Basic installed and it very slow I would Like to Try XP but cant install says cant install newer system already installed

You will need to go into your bios and change the boot order to CD Rom, then boot with the XP disc in the optical drive, format the hard-drive and then install a fresh copy of XP.
You might like to go to the Dell website and download all the XP drivers you will need for the 640M.can be found here. Dell drivers Copy them to a USB stick or external drive, you would also be quicker downloading SP SP3, which will also save time.Found here: Xp SP3 follow instructions.

I have a similar laptop I increased the RAM to 2GB and it now flies with Vista basic with all the SP installed it really made it a good little machine. Much cheaper way than downgrading the machine to an outdated operating system.
