Permissions issues in Win 7

I have tried installing Win 7 about ten times now (64 bit version) on about three different physical PCs and in around 6 VMs and always end up with a system that does not even permit itself to modify software that it has installed. Sometimes, an installation will run with no errors right to the end and then abort because it cannot write the start-up link to the programs start menu. There are hardly any options possible when installing Win 7 so I don't see that I'm setting a wrong option anywhere. Anyone els had this? It doesn't help if I deactivate UAC, either.

That sounds very strange indeed!
Are you doing clean installs or upgrading? Are the OS disks formatted before use?
I agree with you saying that there are very few options to select when installing Win7 and I'm sorry I can't be of much help.
