I have several notification area icons listed in the "Customise Panel" that are no longer on my computer having uninstalled them.
Does anyone know how to clean out all the defunct ones?

Right click on the task-bar click properties
Under the task-bar tab {notification area} click customize
You can permanently hide the icons you do not use
