Hi
Just thought people might like to know that I have just got off the phone to Microsoft UK who confirmed to me that my activation key WILL activate both 32 and 64 bit versions though not at the same time of course. Being Microsoft it took them a while to come to that conclusion but they did however assure me that if I wanted to go 64 bit (I've already activated 32 bit) and i have any problems they would generate me a new key free of charge.
This link would seem to confirm their advice:-

I've just finished installing all my games and stuff and then gegan wondering about 64 bit DOH!
All the best

Yes it is possible to use your activation key with both versions however there are conditions.
You can activate Windows 7 32bit Edition and then upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit Edition, however if you install Windows 7 64 bit Edition first & activate it you can not change to Windows 32 bit Edition.
