64-bit installation

I'm currently running Vista 32-bit: I'd like to move up to 64-bit when I install W7, and my computer is 64-bit capable.
However, I get an error when inserting the 64-bit W7 disc. I'm opening the disc from My computer and then clicking setup.exe, so is the fact that I'm running in 32-bit the problem here? Do I have to boot from the disc?

You cannot upgrade cross architecture eg from 32bit to 64bit. Boot from disc and do a clean install having first backed up files and data.
