Have vista, can i partition and add 7?

my laptop has 2 hard drives, the primary hard drive is 500gb and has vista installed, it also has over 50% free

what id like to do is split this in 2, add windows 7 to the new partiton, gradually move and get the 7 partion ready then delete the vista partition..

is this possible, and if so how.

cheers, its formatting the new partition.. then ill be good to install 7, new it must be easy
