Have been using a HP Deskjet F4180 on Windows7 Release Candidate Build7100 and it runs beautifully without any HP software installed.
Having fallen for an HP Update fiasco some time ago..I am very wary of HP's Update software standards lately !
They have always offered "bloated" downloads with loads of stuff that isn't really neccessary..
There were loads of users who had real pain after a recent offering from HP and uninstalling some of the software was made difficult by some of the very deep "hooks" that this software tends to insert deep into the registry.Using Revo Uninstaller..to remove the HP Updated software...I found that the registry entries were absolutely unbelievable in the extent of their invasion of the registry values and removing them wasn't as straightforward as it should have been!
If you feel you have to use HP's software..be reasonably selective of which components you allow it to install .I have run the F4180 All-in one without any loss in functionality whatsoever of the printer and scanner functions .
Try running with the Windows7 native drivers first and see if it suits you ..If not..by all means have a try at HP's software ...but be selective...Set a Restore Point.... and don't install the full package unless you raelly can't live without the bloat !
