Windows 7/XP hardware compatibilty

I read with great interest that with a version of Windows 7 it will be possible to also load a virtual version of XP for programs not able to communicate with Win 7.
What the announcement didn't mention however was hardware compatibility.
I have a printer HP Business Inkjet 1100DT and a Scanjet 4670 for neither of which HP took the trouble to bring out a new Vista driver and the reason why I never bothered to install Vista.
What I hope someone will be able to tel me is whether either or both these items will run with the new Win7/XP or is this just a forlorn and hopeless dream?
I'm not in the market for a new operating system but if Win7/XP will work with these two items then yes I will make the change, but likewise as I have recently had my 5 year old computers internally updated/upgraded I have no need to make the change.
Any advice or hints regarding the hardware welcome
