Windows Live Messenger

Hi,
Something weird happened recently to my Windows 7 laptop that Windows Live Messenger and IE8 stopped working at the same time. It gives an error code 80048820. Tried uninstalling and re-installing messenger but no luck. Tried .NET framework solution and windows firewall settings advised in google but no luck again.
Any advise will be highly appreciated (specially for messenger)

On the right hand side of the toolbar, click on the flag, open the action centre, within, there is an option to repair explorer, might work for you.
