Building PC?

Hi before I start I want to say that I'm only 15 years old so If I made a dumbass mistake please be nice about it :). So anyway I want to build a gaming pc that'll handle pretty much anything thrown at it and I was wondering whether this was a good rig or if anything needs to be changed for any reason. I'd appreciate any help but I do understand the basics of oc building - I'm not a complete noob ;)... OK.

Case. The HAF 932, this is a big case and to be honest if you are not going to water-cool then I would look for something smaller, Perhaps an Antec or Lian Li or Nzxt to mention but a few.

Mobo. To be honest I would stick with a Z68 as there are few bugs in the Z77 plus there really isn’t a lot of extra value that you can get from the Z77 chipset.

CPU. The i7-3770K. Unless you are a very heavy Photoshop user the gains won't be terribly noticeable over a i5 2500K which is a great gaming chip.

HDD. You have chosen to go the one big hard-drive route whereas I prefer the two smaller hard-drive route, so one can back up the other.

Graphics card. If you make changes to the mobo/CPU/case you could put the extra to a better GPU, whereas your choice is not bad there are many better but obviously cost more.

PSU amd RAM seems fine and the rest of your bits are of course up to you.

I understand what your saying about the case but to be honest I wanted a bigger case for future upgrades. So is the i5 and i7 really that similar? Benchmarks don't seem to show they are and the cost offer difference is about ~50 which seems like an ok price to pay for a better CPU. Also regarding the Z68 as far as I can see it is only 10 pounds cheaper whereas the Z77 has a built in wifi card and (not too sure about this next bit) doesn't the Z68 not support the new ivy-bridge processors? And is the 6970 really not good enough as the reviews seem to love the card and the benchmarks really do look good. What about the HD 7950? That card is £100 more but looks to be quite a lot more powerful. Thanks for the help btw :)

I am not sure what you could upgrade to that will need the space that that case has, unless as I say you go for water cooling. But of course it is your choice.

As for the CPU why pay for power that you will not use the i5 2500K is probably the best gaming chip going and but again your choice.

I have just upgraded my HD 6870 to a GTX 670 and with my i5 2500k and Asus Z68 Pro Gen3 and have a fine gaming machine.I must admit I looked at the HD 7950.70 but decided to wait until the new Nvidia cards were released. Here is a comparison of the two cards you have mentioned. compare.

Thanks I think I will go for the i5 but as for the nVidia graphics cards to cut a long story short I want a 3d monitor (mentioned in the OP) and it ony supports 3D over ATI graphics cards so I'll be sticking to ATI ;). By the way have you got any recommendations about keyboards and gaming mice because to be honest I have no clue which to get, the before mentioned ones had good reviews at a good price. Thanks for the help.

At the moment I am using a Dell UltraSharp U2410 Monitor and it is the best I have had but i was thinking of 3D and came across this Benq, which has some pretty good reviews. But back to your monitors I cannot see anywhere that it says you can only use ATI cards, can you point me in the right direction?

As for keyboard I use the Cyborg V.5 Keyboard and I have been using a Logitech MX518 mouse but also have a Cooler Master Storm Spawn but I prefer the MX518.

It depends on your needs when you buy a monitor- if you want to buy a 3d monitor you can buy a nVidia 3D vision ready monitor or a ATi HD3D monitor. However usually the nvidia 3D vision monitors do not support HDMI 1.4a inputs so you cannot use the 3D for inputs like a PS3, Blu-ray player etc. As I want to hook up my ps3 to the monitor aswell I have to buy the ATi HD3D monitors and the Samsung S23A750D has amazing reviews and supports HDMI 1.4a. However it doesn't support nvidia 3D Vision unless you hack the firmware or something which I don't really want to do tbh. And to the Benq monitor you linked, yes that supports nVidia 3D vision but not HDMI 1.4a. This means that you can't connect a PS3 or a bluray player via HDMI and get the 3d effects. And WOW I have not seen that keyboard before but you have just sold me on it (that and it's design ;) ).

As for the mouse in my opinion the design is disgusting and the price is higher than the g500 which received better reviews. But thanks for the help :)

Oh and btw the monitors in the OP don't say they don't support nVidia 3D but they aren't listed on the 3D vision site and many forum members on various forums claim you have to hack it if you want to use 3D vision due to the built-in emitter so basically the only other option is ATi HD3D which it is recommended for :)
