XBox and 720p resolution

My grandson has an XBox which he currently plays through a 25" Sony CRT TV. I have a 37" Samsung LCD W/S TV with HDMI connections that accepts 720p input as a maximum (it also has Component vis phone sockets). Looking at the XBox it appears to output at 1080p, would a 720p TV cope with this output via HDMI? It will accept 1080i from my Sky box but I've chosen to set the Sky HD box to 720p with no noticeable change in picture quality. I don't want to offer the 37" TV and disappoint the lad by it not working correctly. Any help appreciated.

Thanks for the link. Yes it's an XBox 360. Looks as if it should work OK!
