A couple of things:
DON'T go for 64 bit Vista if you want to play games...The 32 bit version is far better supported.
See if you can push them on the graphics card (an 8800GTX or Ultra) Should be possible if you are spending that kind of cash. PSU SHOULD be ok, but I'd prefer a 600watt in there myself.

Agreed, go for 32 bit Windows and a 600+ watt psu.
An nVidia GeForce 8800GTS 512 gives you a lot of bang for your buck, rated faster than a GTX by nVidia on thier website. You should be able to get one for very little extra, can be bought retail for under £200.
Mine runs GTR2 at 1680x1050 and settings maxed with ease.

The GTS is a better compromise, but I'd push for a GTX for that money.

Im told the 32 bit can only use a maxium of 4mb.
I know it is better suported but why else is it better if you dont mind me asking?

I'd stick with Vista x64 with 4GB of RAM, also it may be worth looking at the 9800GTX which looks like it's had a price drop since the ATi HD4850 was launched.
I'd also up the PSU to 600+ as already mentioned.

Thanks guys,
After reading the responses on that forum i think i'll stick with the 64 bit, but i'll definetly upgrade to the pus to 600+ aswell as the graphics card.
Thanks for the advice!

I recently had a machine built (there doesn't seem any advantage in doing it yourself these days)to run Flight Sim X properly - this is very demanding software, but unfortunately the only "game" that I use.
About the same cost as you have been quoted, but sans monitor and keyboard. I was advised against 64bit Vista for the reason given above, so have 32bit Vista Home premium.
Remainder is Asus P5N-T deluxe board, 775 Intel E8400 (3 Ghz) Core 2 Duo processor, 4gb Corsair XMS 800mhzRAM, 500gb SATA drives x2 (I use the machine for digi video as well!), Pioneer SATA DVDRW x2, Case and 650w psu. Oh, I nearly forgot (!) the killer (which was nearly half the price of the whole kit) is a Zotac 280 Nvidia Graphics Card.
It works rather well. In fact I have never ever seen framerates such as this is giving me. :-)
