HTC Desire C - tones

My wife has just got a HTC Desire C smartphone and she wants to change the text notification to a longer one. The tones that are already on the phone are too short and she misses texts arriving.

I have place an mp3 file in the "music" folder, but this does not show in the Notification list. However it does show in the Ringtone list.

How do we download a longer notification and install it?
