Best phone and type of network for my needs

My current mobile phone contract expires in December and I would like some advice on what mobile phone would be best for my requirements and whether or not I would be best on a 3G or 4G network.

I plan to use my mobile phone for:

• Calls • Texts • Checking the internet while out and about (mainly to compare prices with those online) • Checking social networking sites, twitter and using other apps mainly newspapers and bbc • Checking and replying to personal e-mail • Checking and replying to work e-mails and checking my work calendar

I would also be grateful if people could provide advice on the amount of data usage I should be thinking about having on my new contract.
