I have a Galaxy S3. If I download something to my phone like a PDF I know it goes in the download folder. But how do I move it to my phones 'desktop' for quick access. Any ideas anyone please?

Connect your phone to pc by USB. You should get an option to connect as media device. Choose that and then use Windows Explorer to navigate to the phone's download folder and copy and paste across. The phone will probably appear as an external device.
You may also be able to using Kies.

I don't think that there is any easy way to add to your home page. I've not tried this droid forums
