Buying a mobile phone for my 11 year old son - advice required please

Hi Folks

My 11 year old son wants me to buy him a mobile phone.

Can someone please be kind enough to advice what type of phone I should buy him? He mostly want to use it to take photos and let us (his parents) know when he will be coming late from school etc.

Also, shall I get him a pay as you go phone or one on a contract?
