why do I not get 3g

I am using an Experia Mini which is a 3G phone with Asda sim card. Why is it that when I switch on data it only ever shows 2G.

You'll need to enable 3G in the network mode settings - I'm pretty sure you should select WCDMA, but maybe someone else will confirm.
