iPhone 3s and iPad synch via iCloud

My wife has a new iPhone 3S and I have just purchased an iPad. I have activated the same iCloud account on both devices as we both want to have the same diary on our respective devices. My wife’s iPhone uploaded her diary to iCloud and then it downloaded to my laptop. I added some items to this diary but I cannot get those items to synch with iCloud and then update the diary on the iPhone. What am I doing wrong?

The only thing I can suggest is to make sure you are both using the same version of IOS.
