Data Connection

Probably a bit of a stupid question but try as I might I'm finding it increasingly difficult to keep up!

Is there any point in keeping my mobile data connection enabled, using poser and pennies, when I'm in wi-fi range, or when I'm not looking for dynamic stuff like weather and traffic?
