Phone Internet & MMS settings

Help please I am getting desperate.

I took my (not locked or branded) almost new Sony Ericsson W508 from one service provider to another. With the original supplier it worked for Phone/internet/sms/mms/email. The new supplier ported my phone number to their service (vodafone.MT) where it functions only as a phone and sms. I have been to their service centre & they cannot get it working on MMS/Internet. They have sent settings to the phone many times and it will not install them. Their manual instructions seem sketchy and they have only one set for the Sony Ericsson series.

Could anyone tell me what the following error message means, it shows every time I click to install their settings -

"Authentication Failed Settings Discarded" Does this indicate a settings problem or a fault in the phone?

I also put the new sim in two other makes of phone and get the same result (obviously using the aprropiate manufactures settings.
