Hi pls can you help me

Have spent this evening updating my Iphone 4 and read the instructions step by step. It has backed up the phone, then updated! Now I have no servie on the Iphone. I have looked on IPhone site etc but cannot find my problem on there. It keeps about jailbreaking or something. I have a kosher phone with Vodaphone under contract. Pls can anyone help to get this to work. I am happy to go to a back up but just do not know how!!!! Thank you for reading...
