blackberry - hardware problem ?

My blackberry seems to have gone on the blink. Message is "initiliazation failed". I've obtained a new SIM card and that gives the same message, but the newSIM card works in my old blackberry. I've updated and reinstalled the software on the one that doesn't work (Bold 9000). My question is this: is there anything I can do to remedy the handset problem or is best to abandon it (and quite possibly blackberry in view of recent problms)? Thanks in advance
