Integrated v USB v Express Card

Does anyone have any thoughts about the above three options for including 3G to a laptop/netbook?
My understanding is that integrated gives the best signal and smallest hit to battery life, but is offset by a much higher price (+£100 min for a netbook, +£300-500 for a laptop).
USB and Express Card are likely fairly similar in terms of signal and battery hit. Express Cards seem to be slightly more expensive, but on the other hand are neater and less likely to be in the way or damaged.
Looking forward to hearing opinions,
Sham
