how to reset password in Vista Home Basic

My partner has an E-book laptop. At the moment, she tries to logon, but it says wrong password. She knows this isnt so, as its her old dogs name. I have tried resetting by going into the bios, but no luck. Can anyone PLEASE help, as shes driving me mad? Thanks, Paul

That is if she needs to connect to the net,or have i got it wrong and its to get into the ebook laptop?
