Zone alarm removed, now problem on vista start up

Hi, My Girlfriend has loads of junk on her pc, but she believes it is safe as she updates the security every so often! Hmp! We had a few issues with Zone Alarm and she removed it but, since that time: After start up an empty application opens (a large white box on screen with a blank grey tab on task bar!) I have tried many ideas, but it won't close and doesn't seem to be recognised in the task manager or programs currently running. I don't wish to change to default windows from the present as I think a lot of utilities and connections will be unworkable. Any advice appreciated!! And a Happy New Year to all! Thanks, Stu

Try CNTRL ALT DELETE open Task Manager and see if there is an application running. If there is try closing it/them down until you have the screen clear of applications. Also try Windows Key and find if Zone alarm is still in In the Programs list and if so uninstall it.
