My laptop has Vista on it. My PC is Windows 7. When sending a pdf file to my laptop it arrives as a dat file. How can I stop this happening? When I send pdf files to my son in Russia he receives them as letters and number all jumble up. How do I rectify this?

When you receive a .dat file you have to find out how to open it and to do that you need to find the programme that created it. Some e-mails arrive with files in this format and you have to convert them.
Have a look at this article which may be useful.
This will apply to the pdf files sent to your son in Russia.
