Whilst trying to type the title to this query the cursor jumps back and causes me to backtrack all the time.
Why??

I am assuming you are on a laptop with a touchpad? In which case the pointer speed and tapper settings need to be adjusted - just as you would change the settings of a mouse.
I don't know what model you have but as a general rule go into control panel where you should find reference to touch pad - then pointer options. You will probably be given options so you can click on advanced/advanced features setting - click on settings in pointer speed and tapping setting box - you probably then need to uncheck the "enable tap" box.
Alternatively, you could attach a usb or wireless mouse to your laptop which should give you better control.
