vista laptop

hi my problem is my laptop which is running on vista wont connect to virgin wireless,it says its connected but just locally,whatever that means. but weve another laptop running on windows 7 and thats fine.
any help would be great,im sure ive tried everything i know,which isnt a deal

From your computer's Device Manager, locate your Network Adapter, right click on it then choose Disable then re-Enable it back.
Do a test, restart your computer and Tap F8, choose Safe Mode with Networking, see if you're able to connect. If you are able to connect, restart your computer again and this time choose Normal Mode and see 'Local Only' disappeared.
If above recommendation didn't work, remove your network encryption for now, test your wireless connectivity, if successful, try WEP Security, test your connection again, if successful try a higher security - WPA or WPA2.

did everything you said,but ive still got the same security on the modem,so im not really sure what was causeing it
