Unable to boot vista

Hi, I'm trying to help a friend with his Advent laptop.
I am unable to boot up, I have run start up repair which came back with.

Problem Event Name -startup repair V2

Problem signature 01-autofailover
" " 02-6.0.6000.16386.6.0.6000.16386
" " 03-6
" " 04-720907
" " 05-failure during setup
" " 06-missing OS loader
" " 07-0
" " 08-1
" " 09-wrp repair
" " 10-0
OS version 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1

Local ID - 1033
He does not have a repair disk, so I tryed a system restore( no luck). I also tryed a full destructive recovery (no luck) just error code 2
error applying vista.wim
Can anyone advise?
