Placing desktop shortcut in another account

I have given my old laptop to my eight-year-old son, but have created a special account for him with parental control.
I've installed a few games for him to use, but I had to install them using my account. The problem is that no shortcuts for these games appear on the desktop when he goes into his account, and all my efforts to place icons there have failed. I've tried all sorts of things, including giving him almost complete privileges for these games (properties, protection etc), and right clicking on an empty space on his desktop and then choosing create shortcut, but I can then only locate the folder in which the games are placed, not the actual .exe files.
Does anyone here have experience in setting up shortcuts in other accounts?
