Vista will not boot

Fujitsu amilo, running vista will not boot. Error message is as follows,

File: \windows\system32\config\system

status: 0xc000014c

Info: windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing or corrupt.

There does not appear to have been an istallation disc made when laptop was purchased. I recall from another laptop repair that I did that if you pressed one of the 'F' keys it took you into the 'reset to factory setting' but cannot remember what it was. Can anyone help please.
