Just very quickly, are you certain your router has no passkey programmed into it.
If you "reset" the router, as in factory reset does it default to some pre supplied WEP code or whatever. Check your router documentation. Or can you via cable connection enter a passkey of your choice, then set it up wirelessly.
Take it you are clicking the start orb and selecting "connect to" in the menu and picking your router from any available.

yes i currently have a vistya laptop working with the router. i have turned off encryption and still tried to connect and it finds it but will not establish connection. i entered the config on 192.169.0.1 and took it off and it recognises that it is unprotected.
i am a comptia certied pc technician so i know a fair bit..
any ideas?

Is it worth uninstalling the wireless adapter and reinstalling. Don't quite know what that might achieve. How about changing the channel on the router... again it makes no sense, just one of "them things you gotta try".
