Windows DVD Maker Issue

I have a avi rip of one of my dvd's which i put onto my external harddrive to back up as it was holiday photos the format of this movie is a avi but whenever i try to put it on to a disk the avi is corrupt

Try ripping it from the original disk again, if the files are corrupt you can't do anything about them

the problem is the disk is damaged so could i try and import it to movie maker or try and convert it to another format do you think that would work?

Try a recovery program such as this; click here
Could recover a lot of files if original disc damaged. Haven't used this myself so can't recommend or otherwise.
