XP remote desktop with Vista Basic?

I recently bought a new laptop that came with Vista Home Basic preinstalled (no disc). Because I need to remotely access my work server, I had to buy a Professional version of windows so I opted to purchase XP Pro because that's what I was familiar with.
Now I'm finding that "downgrading" is hardly a simple procedure, especially without a disc for Vista if I ever want to get it back!
Is there a way to use Vista as my OS but still be able to use Remote Desktop (from XP)?

!!! I have done a number of searches on the subject of Remote Desktop with Vista and repeatedly read that Business/Professional or Premium is required. This is also what the sales person told me.
But you, wise one, are better informed! You just saved me 200 dollars. Thank you.
