using vista home premium 64bit, (don't know whether you need to know system is 64bit or not)? I have my screensaver set to come on after 2 mins inactivity but it does not always do so, is there a way to put a shortcut on the desktop or on the taskbar so I can start it as soon as I leave my pc? thanks

Yes, find the relevant .SCR file for the Screensaver and create a shortcut to it on the desktop.

thanks mgmcc and rawprawn, both suggestions are a great help, unfortunately I am not using a windows *.scr, I am using a file of family photos so creating a shortcut just opens the file.
