Using Galaxy mini in the USA

I'm visiting my son in USA and am taking my new smart phone with me. I will be turning roaming off. Is there anything else I should do to keep costs down? My mobile number begins with 079. If he calls me, should he just dial the number or does he have to add or change some part of the number?

There will be costs associated with calling you (for you and him). It depends on your mobile operator. You should look up their website and check what their overseas call rates are. He will need to prefix the number with 44 and drop the 0 as your mobile number is a UK number. Just dialling 079 will not work. Turn off data roaming not call roaming. You will need to notify your mobile operator to have call roaming.

Orange Roaming and Making calls abroad should provide much that you need to know.
